The thing I find most interesting about this, isn't weather he committed a crime or not,
its how it came about and I don't much blame the girl for going to his room, although she
should have thought it through a little longer. I've been thinking about these types of
situations since long before the Kobe thing.
30 years ago I read an article in Playboy that talked about two NBA
stars who shared an apartment. The write centered on the fact that women were a part
of the program and perks. It talked about several girls walking around in their
apartment with only Tee shirts on, so that the fellows could have at it when the desire
dictated. Recently a fellow on CNN talked about just how widespread adultery was among the
players and how most of the players watch each others back. So, it appears that this has
been the norm for quite some time.
There are not many young men who could withstand the urge to
"have at it" so freely and I will admit that in my youth I would have taken full
advantage of the perks. Even at this age I think the temptation would be a bit more than I
could take. Having it flashed in your face is a problem many men deal with and my
credentials for writing this comes from my having worked as a maintenance man for a year
in a brothel, more on this later, maybe.
I don't fault Kobe's urge, or his failing to act on it. I certainly
fault him for putting himself in the position of having to deal with the urge. Watching
his apology on national TV, was nothing more than an "I'm sorry because I got caught.

Heck, I understand that he was sorry, don't blame him, and maybe he will never do
it again. What bothers me is all those that say, OK leave the guy alone, he's sorry
already.
Personally I think the guy had his fun and is deserving of paying a
price, and I don't necessarily mean jail time. Ask the hero that all those young folks
worship and ask him politely to go away from endorsing his heroship. If we let too many
people slide it is no longer and important thing to strive for a moral and ethical life.
Look around and see what is happening. You don't have to belong to the moral-majority to
understand that a stronger sense of morality would help society do away what caused Kobe
Bryant's problems.
Anyway its something that I think about, how
about you.
