Clinton Calls For Tougher Drunken-Driving Standards
As a present survivor, and former drinkin driven law breakin , societal misfit, who never burgled or assaulted with few unethical illegal intents I feel I have the credentials to comment on the tougher drunken driving standards. Kill em, short of that, punishment will only satisfy a politicians pursuit and not solve much else
I got more to say on that, maybe tonight, maybe tomorrow.
Lets have a drink and then go for a drive. What could it hurt, read it.
As a former law breakin societal misfit drunken driver who never burgled or assaulted
with few unethical illegal intents I feel I have the credentials to comment on the tougher
drunken driving standards.
Kill em. Short of that, punishment will only satisfy a politicians pursuit and not solve
much.
I have had close personal involvement with deaths and serious injuries cause by drinking
and driving accidents. I will share one that had a profound affect on me.
I'm driving along, alone, I looked in my rear view mirror just in time to see a car cross the line and
slam head on , 50MPG , into another oncoming car. It looked bad, there were a few other
cars close by. It had always been my practice to stop and help, whatever the situation.
Not this time.
Three months later I am given a 30 day sentence for 2nd offense dui and put in the tank
to begin my journey. In comes a guy who was sentenced to vehicular manslaughter, he
was driving the car that crossed the line. A 19 year old girl was the lone driver in the
other car, killed. It was a strange experience. In some ways I felt like I was like him, or
that it was my fault. We both committed the same offense, only he wasn't so lucky. He
did not "seem" remorseful, I was haunted.
When I was young, if you had a few too many, the cops would turn a blind eye,
make you park or drive straight home. Arrest seemed to be the last resort. That seemed to
be a reasonable approach. That is seldom the way it goes now, and on a third conviction
sometimes the offender goes to PRISON. And society pays again.
Now there is a push from the “lie guy” to have all states lower the limit to .0
whatever. From the present point whatever. Man, we all want the drunks off the
road, but its not the 3 or 4 beer drinkers that are the problem. For those of you who don’t
drink, ask someone who does and they will truthfully tell you short of a 6 pack, there is
no real problem. I’m talking about an “average’ drinker, not a non drinker. The non
drinkers most generally, realize they shouldn’t drive. Granted your reactions are
affected, granted these lower limit drivers are responsible for a percentage of accidents,
but I would suggest its a smaller number than the elderly are responsible for or the just
plane irresponsible drivers who make a conscience sober choice.
The problems are the ones who routinely pour out of a bar, with 12 drinks under
their belt.
By the time a person reaches that third conviction, the fact that they are repeat
drink/drivers is because they are repeat drinkers, Duh. What happens if they don’t
drink? they would not be a menace to society. It would be very simple to impose a
sentence that would keep alcohol out of the system of the offender, done!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would suggest that the reason this does not take place, is, some civil liberty
would be violated. Change the loss of civil liberty from prison/jail to self imposed
restriction, through antibuse or something. A logical, reasonable choice will have been
made by all involved that would benefit everyone.
For those that choose prison, forcible inject them, or bring them to my house, I’ll
do it. Then they can go back to work.
Punishment, should be the alternative, when there are no other options. Unless of
course, we punish because we are more interested in our feelings rather than solutions.

Target the problem. Target the solution. Target your representative Target any one who
will listen.
